COCO IS BLOWING 11 CANDLES TODAY! We rescued him in 2008: he was the pet of high ranking authorities and it took us two years to have him in a group at the sanctuary… Today, Coco is among the ”big boys” we take care of at the sanctuary!!

SURROGATE BROTHERS TOMMY & MATA
Savagely taken from their families killed for their meat, TOMMY & MATA are two young chimpanzee orphans who have developed strong bonds. They are like brothers; a shared and cohesive relationship essential to their survival. J.A.C.K gave them a second chance in life and is glad to see them both happy! ♥

Virunga National Park is greatly saddened to confirm the death of Ranger Freddy Mahamba Muliro during an attack on a ranger position on Thursday, March 7th in t…he Park’s troubled Central Sector.
Park Director, Emmanuel de Merode said, “We are in deep mourning for Ranger Freddy. It is a tragedy that his young life has been cut short in dedicated service to Virunga. Now more than ever, Ranger Freddy’s death highlights the very real threats to our rangers in their protection of Virunga National Park.”

We have some BIG news!! Yesterday during the public speaking event of Dr. Jane Goodall in Freetown, the Minister of Agriculture and Forestry officially declared… the CHIMPANZEE as the national animal of Sierra Leone!!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We are happy and proud to be a part of this big step for Sierra Leone. Now the chimp is the national animal we hope that even more people will join and work together to conserve the endangered chimpanzee species and the wildlife it lives in in Sierra Leone. ⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
