#Tacugama Chimpanzee Sanctuary

Every night, wild chimpanzees build themselves nests and tuck themselves in for a good night’s sleep.
By the morning they’re on the move again and set up camp elsewhere.

Chimps build nests made from branches from one or more trees. They weave together these branches and leaves on both the ground and in the trees, depending on what type of nest it is (nap nest versus night nest).

For safety reasons – there are wild chimpanzees in the area for instance- the rescued chimpanzees at Tacugama do not sleep outside at night. We keep them safe in a dens, where they eat their diner and sleep.

But nothing is keeping them from building a comfortable afternoon nap nest, like Gabie did yesterday 🙌
